Our native English speaking guides are looking forward to welcoming you, this season, to the incredible fortress of Aubin-Neufchateau. The fortress is open on the third Sunday of the month between April and November; The guided tour commences at 14:00. (The fortress is open at other times by prior arrangement — contact the fort for details)
We recommend good walking shoes, and warm clothing as however warm or cold it is at the surface, underground, the temperature is around 12°C
Admission includes an above ground walk around the massif where your guide will explain the fortifications and the 12 day battle. You will then enter and descend 160 steps to the tunnel network and galleries that supported this mini-city, you will be guided through the facilities that enabled this bastion to stand firm against assault after assault. The cathedral like munitions store, the machine and generator rooms, the shower block and the incredibly deep well.
Remaining underground – you will leave the combat, and combat support areas, and walk below the fields to the underground barracks, hospital and chapel; here you will witness the devestation caused by German secret weapons.
Finally, you will exit the underground network – far from the fort itself, fortunately, this exit has only 90 steps! — here , at Block P, you will see the remnnants of the anti-tank defences, the tour will end at the neighboring cafe (where you can pause with a coffee and a drink) and the museum.
We look forward to meeting you
